Foot care

Seventy-five percent of Americans will experience problems with their feet in their lifetime. This may involve bunions, corns, calluses, ingrown nails or overgrown fungal nails. This leads to pain, wounds, inability to wear supportive shoes, and falls. Someone with a diagnosis of diabetes has additional risk. Nerve damage and poor circulation can cause open sores, leading to infection, amputations and even death without interventions. The good news is that with regular foot care, and good diabetic management, most of these complications can be avoided. We recommend checking your feet daily for any new issues, wearing appropriate footwear for protection (even when indoors), wearing clean cotton socks, and maintaining foot and nail care from a podiatrist or Foot Care Nurse every 10-12 weeks.
